I’m not sure if it’s just me, but I always find it so difficult to buy gifts for men. Whenever I want to (or have to) get someone a present, I want it to have a meaning to the other person. I don’t just look for anything that will soon be thrown in the corner of the wardrobe and never looked at again. But since women are quite open about their wants (at least theoretically), it’s pretty easy to know what would make a great gift for them. With Father’s Day, I’ve realised that I actually have no idea what to buy for men. So I have decided to do an extensive research on this topic and write down the ultimate gift ideas for any guy in our lives.
Men’s Perfume
If I learned anything through being around my male friends, family members and my boyfriend is that a guy can never have too many perfumes/colognes. I have only two different bottles which were both gifted to me (don’t judge), whilst my other half is a proud owner of about 8 of them. No jokes. Even though perfumes are not necessarily the cheapest option when it comes to buying gifts, it can definitely last a pretty long time. L’Occitane has a great selection of men’s perfumes which are reasonably priced, will last a long time and you know that the scents will be appreciated by others.
Record player
We all know a music enthusiast in our lives, so why not take their passion to the next level? There is nothing quite as nostalgic about listening to music as putting it on a record player. With a very wide variety on the market, you’re bound to find one that suits your budget and the needs of the person you’re looking to buy it for.
PlayStation icons light
Even the little gaming geek inside me screamed with happiness when seeing this, even though I wouldn’t go as far as to buy it for myself. PlayStation icons light would make a perfect addition to a gaming corner or even a gaming room. I showed it to my boyfriend when I was researching gift ideas and he has been mentioning it every day so I’m quite confident it would be a great gift.
Shaving apron
If you’ve never had to go through the pain of cleaning your bathroom after your boyfriend had a shave, then you probably won’t understand why this product made the list. The little hairs get absolutely everywhere. It doesn’t matter how hard my boyfriend tries to tidy up after himself, I still find beard hair in my bathroom 4 days later. I don’t even want to think how many find their way to my toothbrush… Therefore a shaving apron is the best solution to that problem. It’s very easy to assemble as it looks like a really big bib with two suckers at the end to attach to the mirror or wall in your bathroom. And all (or let’s say most) of the beard hair goes inside it!
Beauty products
It can be weird to think about men caring about their looks as it’s a more obvious gift for women. But men also need to look after their skin and appearance just as much as women do. However, most of the time they don’t know too much about what is good for them and what’s not. This is where women can go in and help them with little gifts every now and then. Men tend to run into shops, grab the first thing on the shelf and be happy with it for the next 6 months. Okay, I may be simplifying it a bit too much. But I personally don’t know a man who would take longer than 2 minutes to find a beauty product they need. So why not treat them to something a bit more luxurious than their usual ‘I-have-no-idea-what-that-is’ products. Like this Styling Concrete from Le Labo.
The Mighty Mug
Some people are more clumsy than others. And there are many situations in life when you really don’t want to be clumsy. Like drinking tea and working on your laptop, for example. With the Mighty Mug, the danger of spilling your drinks goes down to 0%. It is literally impossible to spill unless you pick up the mug and miss your mouth. You can hit it from any angle and the mug will keep standing like it has no care in the world. Know someone who always spills their drinks? This is the perfect gift for them.
Personalised BBQ tool set
What is it about BBQs that makes men think they’re the kings of the world? I swear, I’m never allowed near one, because it’s such a male territory. At least that’s one form of cooking they’re so willing to do. Can’t complain as long as my halloumi cheese is nice and smokey, because halloumi is life. I’ll save my cheese puns for later though. To make any guy an even bigger king of the BBQ, he will definitely need a personalised tool set he can show off to everyone.
Monthly sock subscription
Don’t lie to me, it sounds like a dream. Socks always go missing whether it’s in the washing machine which always manages to suck one in and spit the other out or they randomly grow legs and go on adventures on their own. But a sock subscription? A new load of socks every month? Show me the person who would not like to get that as a gift and I’ll go and talk to them because they clearly haven’t heard me properly.
Google Chromecast
This is an actual product that I was able to test myself and it makes my life, not necessarily so much easier, but really convenient when I want to watch something on Youtube but I also have a lot of work to do on my laptop. It’s such a little device that you plug into your TV and you can connect every device that uses the same WiFi. And then you just put a video on Youtube or a movie on Netflix on your phone or laptop and you can throw it on the TV. It makes it really good if your TV is not necessarily a smart TV with all the apps in the world on it but you still want to watch a favourite TV show on a bigger screen. Or a football game. Or pretty much anything you can think of.
Box of Favours
Last but not least… Box of Favours… And before you frown and shout at me through your screen – it’s not just for couples. There are 10 cards that have favours written on them, but you also get cards to write on yourself. So you can make it a bit more personalised. For example, if you want to give it to your brother, you can write ‘Clean my room’. If you want to give it to your dad, you can write ‘Clean my car’, ‘Wash the dishes’ or ‘1h free pass for dad jokes’. It’s entirely up to you and the person you’re giving it to.
Think this purchase through though, because once you give it to someone, you should really stick to the favours that are on there, otherwise the aim of the gift is lost. So if you’re not willing to give your younger brother a back rub – maybe go for something else.
I hope this list makes your life that little bit easier next time you have to buy a gift for your boyfriend/dad/brother/cousin etc. I’ll definitely be using them myself next time I have to find a gift!
Until next time xx
