We all dream of that beautiful glowy skin that doesn’t need any makeup to look alive. But the reality is that absolutely no one has perfect skin 24/7. You can have the best skincare routine in the world and you will still get a spot on your face every now and then. That’s how the world rolls. The good news is that if you find the products that truly work for you and stick to them, you will have better control of what’s going on on your beautiful face. Ever since coming off the pill, I have noticed my skin started to change according to my cycle (read more about it here), but it also changed from sensitive and dry to very oily skin type. I get the usual spots and pimples at certain times of the month and I am absolutely fine with that. But due to the weather change and the arrival of summer and high temperatures, my skin has been producing a lot more oil than usual. Which then, in turn, resulted in a mass outbreak on my chin and forehead.
Whilst I do not think that spots and blemishes make anyone less attractive or beautiful, there are days when I look at the craters on my face and I feel like I want to cry. Mostly because I feel like I’ve been fighting a losing battle. But my desperation resulted in me doing research in all skincare products for oily skin and finding the ones that are not only helpful but also budget-friendly. This is my holy grail staples in my new skincare routine for oily skin.
I had a rough start using this face wash since I didn’t expect it to smell and feel like toothpaste. My bad as I should have checked the ingredients list more thoroughly to realise its got menthol in it. It took a while to get used to a slight tingling sensation on my face, but right now I have to say I’m really enjoying it. I am very happy I stuck with it as it definitely worked with reducing the appearance of spots on my face. What I like the most about the product itself is the fact that it’s a very creamy scrub, so whilst it does exfoliate the skin, it’s not as rough as some other scrubs I have used before. It contains salicylic acid as well as blueberry extract which combined together work towards clearing up the pores and giving you a very deep clean. It doesn’t work rapidly, that’s for sure, but I didn’t expect it as it’s not a high-end product. As a budget-friendly option, it definitely does what it says it would and I have already stocked up on it for the future.
Just like its sibling from the same range, this moisturiser aims to control the oil production on your face. Like the daily face scrub, it contains salicylic acid which reduces the shine and unclogs the pores. I never liked any moisturiser that was heavy or very oily and sticky, but, to my relief, this product has a gel-like texture that’s very lightweight. What is more, it sinks into your skin straight away leaving it feeling nourished and soft but looking matte at the same time. It also doesn’t have a very overpowering scent, just enough to make you feel refreshed and ready to either handle the day ahead or rest through the night. And, a little goes a long way as you only need a little amount every time!
My love for Pixi started with a little sample of their Rose Tonic. Within a week of using it, most of the little spots on my chest began to disappear and my face started looking fresh. Not to mention that it smelled absolutely divine. Even though it’s not meant specifically for blemishes, its nutrients are aimed to calm your skin and reduce any redness. And it surely does that. I love how my skin feels afterward. Unusually to other toners I have tried previously, Rose Tonic leaves my skin feeling nourished with a gentle rose scent lingering around. It soaks into my face very quickly, but it doesn’t leave it feeling tight or dry at all. Same goes for the Vitamin C Tonic. Whilst the Rose Tonic aims to reduce redness and flareups, the Vitamin C one makes sure to boost collagen production in your skin in order to increase natural skin glow. I also recommend applying them with your hand instead of a cotton pad as I find it works so much better! I would highly recommend to everyone looking to switch up their toners! It does come at a higher price, but I have seen it on offer in multiple stores so keep an eye out for those.
If you’ve been here a while, you’ll know my love for L’Oreal products, especially their clay face masks. I have used a vast majority of the range and love the Blemish Control one (otherwise known as the blue one) the most. It does make you look like a smurf for about 10 minutes, but you end up with refreshed soft skin with less defined spots. It doesn’t make the spots disappear in one go, but I have never come across a product that actually would. What it definitely does though, it makes my skin a lot calmer even when I have a load of blemishes on my face. Spots become less visible and the redness definitely does disappear as soon as the mask comes off. It is a lifesaver when I get a spot on a day when I’m going out or know I won’t be wearing any makeup at all.
I am so happy I have this bunch in my skincare routine now! I used to think my skin was dry and sensitive, but it has definitely changed ever since I went into my 20s. I’m currently testing out some more products, but don’t have an opinion about them as of yet. Will update you as soon as I can say more about it! Let me know in the comments below what products you swear by when it comes to taming any blemishes!
Until next time xx
