Ah, my beautiful Autumn… *insert a really poetic quote about Autumn of your own choice* The sound of rain and the smell of wet leaves in the morning is what makes me excited for this time of the year. And of course the incredible outburst of colour outside and on my face. Finally, I’m no longer fighting with sweaty tash and covering myself with layers and layers of factor 50+ (though I do use SPF products on my face all year round). This is the time of the year when my darkest makeup products come out and I immediately light forest-scented candles, fairy lights and start planning trips to pumpkin patches. Spooky season is upon us. And on my face.
I cannot praise this product enough. I could sing songs about it, write poems and everything else an incredibly romantic and poetic person should be doing back in the day. But instead, I’ll just write a blog post because we’re in the 21st century. Naked Heat was my first (and for now only) Urban Decay product, but it’s by a mile the best eyeshadow palette I own. I only use it between September – February and I always look forward to taking it out each year. Sure, I could use it all year round, but to me, it marks the beginning of Autumn. With its beautiful burnt colours of brown, orange and red with some incredibly bright glitter shades it makes a perfect addition to my makeup this time of the year. You can read my full review on it here if you want to learn out about it in more detail.
Another product I have been raving about for years. I used to be a Rimmel-everything girl when I moved to London (I wanted to “get that London look“) and their liquid lips are products I don’t think I’ll ever ditch. Most other matte lipsticks I have tried leave my lips dry and flaky by the end of the day, but not these ones. Not only are they super durable, but they also keep my lips moist and looked after. It’s a Godsend, especially this time of the year when I prefer to use plum and red colours instead of nudes, because I can go out, eat and drink and I don’t have to worry I’ll end up with some weird purple outline on my lips and because I ate everything else with my food. I do have to mention that they are not perfect – they may not come off as you eat, but they do start peeling off after a while so you need to pop to the bathroom to wipe it off and reapply.
Spooky nail colours
I love having my nails done as much as the next person, but if you’re as broke as me then you’re most likely doing your own nails. But you know what? That was you can change colours every week or even every other day if that’s your thing. And in Autumn the range of shades is really amazing. My usual nail varnishes are Models Own in amazing Autumn-inspired colours that I’ve had for years (can’t link them anymore since Models Own closed down last year). But Nails Inc nail varnish in Womanger is what I’m lusting for this year – take a look at how incredible this orange shade is! Autumn is the time of the year when I can paint my nails the craziest colours and no one will look at me twice. What a time to be alive!
I love Autumn for it’s the season where I can whip out my beloved shades from my makeup drawer, but also time to bury myself in soft blankets with a good book and a cuppa. So off you go, my brew is ready! But before we disappear into the world of imagination – what are your favourite makeup pieces for Autumn? Let me know in the comments!
Until next time xx
