My evening skincare routine

I love evenings. It’s the only time in the day I actually let myself relax and not rush anywhere. It’s the only time I get to sit down and read a book or catch up with my favourite TV shows. But it’s also the only time when my skin can take a breather as well. And I always make sure to treat it right. I have developed my own evening skincare routine which works the best and keeps my skin nourished and happy. And it thanks me by not breaking out and looking good even without makeup.

The first step I always take is to remove my makeup. I have gone through many makeup removal products, but I have taken a great liking to Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water. It is very sensitive on my skin and never irritated it in any way. I also like it because micellar water has a special superpower – it sucks up the makeup. Thanks to that everything comes off very easily without me applying loads of pressure. It is also super gentle, even on the eyes. I can’t explain enough how many times I’ve ended up partially blind because of makeup removal products finding their way into my eyes. Garnier created their water so it doesn’t irritate the eyes even when they do come into direct contact. Tried and tested. My eyes are fine.

The way I use it is I put a bit of product on a cotton pad and put it on one spot on my face. I keep it there for a few seconds and then start to gently wipe my skin. It’s important that you hold the pad in one spot because that is how you activate the ingredients in the water. Or ‘cleaning agents’ as Garnier calls them. You won’t actually find this information on a bottle, but makeup artists swear by it. Oh, I nearly forgot – you don’t need to rinse your face when you’re done. After all it’s water, isn’t it?

Evening skincare routine Lush Rub Rub Rub body scrub

When all of my makeup is gone, I move on to take care of the rest of my body. In the shower, I always go for Lush Rub Rub Rub body scrub. I have always suffered from ingrown hair on my legs, so exfoliating is an important part of my routine. I usually rub the product (see what I did there?) on my legs before the shower – for me the product works best on dry skin. This is by a mile my favourite body scrub and I have already gone through three big tubs of it. You’d think I eat it with a spoon, really. It’s not just me obsessing about it – everyone in the store comments on it when I walk around with the tub in my basket! That’s one way to make friends, I guess.

After shower, it’s time for a moisturiser. I use Ziaja Nourishing Body Lotion with Cashmere. If you haven’t heard about it before, don’t worry. I didn’t either. Ziaja is a Polish company which makes affordable and incredibly effective products for every skin type and skin condition. They use a lot of natural ingredients and their creams always smell amazing. I’m normally not a big fan of moisturisers – I don’t like the feeling of it being stuck in between my fingers and being sticky. This body lotion isn’t very thick, is easy to apply and sinks in within minutes, but it leaves the subtle scent for a long time. And it makes me feel really posh because I’m putting ‘cashmere’ on my body.

Finally, I move back to my face. I use Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pore & Shine daily scrub. (Why do they always have such long names? The amount of time I had to check if I spelled everything correctly is ridiculous). I either go for this one or the Pink Grapefruit scrub from the same company. I usually rotate them and if I ran out of one, I go and buy the other. They both smell AH-mazing. I put a little bit of product on my hand and rub it into my face in circular motion. Then I rinse it with warm water. Knowing that I have removed all the possible dirt, I move over to the last product in my routine – Nivea Daily Essentials Rich Regenerating Night Cream. I rub it gently into my skin. I like its creamy texture and delicate smell it leaves on my face. It’s not too heavy so my skin can easily breathe and relax.

Last, but not least – I brush my hair. I find it a lot easier to tame it in the morning if I get rid of all the tangles from the previous day. It also makes my hair feel a lot softer.

That’s usually when I light some candles up, grab a book and spend some nice time reading or listening to relaxing music.

So that’s it! I like to think that my evening skincare routine is very minimal and includes only the necessities. It makes it quick and easy so I’m ready for bed in no time.

What is your nighttime routine?

  1. Ah, skincare products can have such long names! I never used to be interested in skincare when I was a teenager, but being in my 20’s then I have started to enjoy it more and gaining more knowledge about it 😊 I have used a Neutrogena product before, but I can’t for the life of me remember the name of it. I think the name of it has to do with stress.

  2. That Lush scrub sounds amazing! It’s been such a long time since I took the opportunity to unwind during my evening skincare routine. Usually I’m just scrubbing away at my eye makeup and trying to multitask to get things ready for the next morning!

    1. I want to get more products as well! The scrub was the only product from skincare range I’ve tried so far, but everything sounds really good so I’ll have to give it a go!

  3. I get ingrown hairs too! Aren’t they a nightmare?! My facial routine at night is way too long, always involves so many products! I love it when I can be bothered to do the whole thing though, i feel rubbish if I rush! Xxx

    1. I know what you mean, sometimes I just want to go to bed full makeup on or skip some steps in my routine because WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG. But if I show my skin some love then it gives it back to me so it’s a win-win situation.

    1. It is a lifesaver for me. I used to so many different products and this one is the best. I also like cleansing wipes but they work out more expensive.

  4. Nice post! I may have a decent night time skincare routine but I’m rubbish at remembering to moisturise my body after my shower! I love body scrubs too so might have to give this Lush one a go! xx

    1. I used to struggle with moisturising as well! I just kept forgetting or couldn’t be bothered but it makes such a big difference to your skin! I worked very hard to develop this habit but I can see how much better my skin got. The Lush body scrub is just the best! xx
