The 10 quotes to keep you going when you feel like giving up

July 13, 2017 in Lifestyle

Notebook on the table. Many quotes written inside it.

Following your dreams is so difficult. Everyone keeps saying that you should just go for what’s there, just get any job, just settle for less than what you deserve. It would be so much easier to give up and let the society get into my head! You know what I always say to that?

SCREW YOU.

Yes, you heard me. I will not let the society rule my life – if I want something, I will go and get it even if I have to work twice as hard as anyone else! Why? Because I know I can. There are moments when I don’t feel like I will achieve anything but then I come back to these quotes I listed down to put me back on track. And I want to share it with you. Because you can do it too.

“It takes time to create excellence. If it could be done quickly more people would do it” – John Wooden

Who else struggles with being patient? I have so much patience in me in general, but when it comes to results in life I want them immediately. And it doesn’t work like that. You can’t lose 100lbs overnight. You can’t get a job in one day. You won’t write and publish a book in a week. You won’t suddenly get promoted to CEO of the company you started working in as a mailman just a month ago. Life is not a movie, things won’t happen within two hours. To live a ‘happily ever after’ you need to put loads of work into what you’re doing and not give up. It’ll be worth it in the end.

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” – Mark Twain

I cannot stress the importance of this quote to me. I am one of these people who always talk about what they want to do and then don’t do it. I’ve got loads of ideas but I’m good in my comfort zone, plus someone else has probably done it before, so what’s the point of doing it anyway? There’s always a point, guys. In everything you do. You’ll be ahead of so many people just by getting up from the couch and getting started.

“If you have the same damn thoughts, you’re going to have the same damn day” – Meadow DeVor

The power of the mind is pretty amazing. It can take you places. When I was at uni, my lecturer always used to say to us ‘If you think you can and if you think you can’t – you’re right’. Everything starts within you. If you set your mind to think that YES, I AM ABLE or NO, I’M NOT – you’re deciding on what outcome you’ll get. ‘Think that you can do it and you’re already halfway there’. This post is turning into more than 10 quotes.

“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great” – Zig Ziglar

I had a lot of doubts before starting this blog. I’ve done it before, it was a failure (mostly because I gave up after three posts and had massive expectations of it). And I always feel like I’m not good enough for anything – I may not have enough experience, desired skills, relevant university degree… But you know what? I don’t have to have everything to do what I want to do. One step at a time, I will get to where I want to be. I’m already on my way there – I have started, haven’t I?

“I never dreamed about success, I worked for it” – Estee Lauder

“If you don’t build your own dreams, someone will hire you to build theirs” – Dhirubhai Ambani

We spend years working for other people. Nothing bad in that. But I know so many people who don’t have the courage to work for what they want from their lives! I also know some who are very happy not having any dreams. I sometimes feel sorry for them, it must make for a monotonous life. Have the balls to follow your dreams and you won’t have to envy anyone else in your life. You won’t have to look at your boss parking his Range Rover. Build your own empire so you could have that life.

“Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow know what you truly want to become.” – Steve Jobs

I always believed in following my heart. It always knew who I wanted to be, not even lying. My mind might be telling me that my dreams are stupid and I should just settle for less because it’s safer, but I know within myself that I would not be happy. Doesn’t mean that following your gut is not stressful – if anything it’s twice as stressful as listening to your mind. But in the end, it is going to take you to your happy place, so why not take the risk?

“Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it.” – Bruce Lee

I think people try too hard to be like someone else because they are too scared they won’t be accepted for who they really are. I’m guilty of that too. There is only one problem about it – if you’re being someone else, who is being you? Because ‘You’ is very much needed in this world. If every man was like Brad Pitt, would you even know which one was yours? Would it even matter? Life would be so boring if everyone was the same. It’s all about different flavours. You can do it. You can make it in life. You can live your dream. But only as yourself. You do you. And everything will be fine.

“You might well remember that nothing can bring you success but yourself” – Napoleon Hill

The funny thing with success is that people don’t actually see how you’ve made it happen. They see you at the top and think you were always there. They do not realise the amount of hard work, commitment and sacrifices in your life. So they will always envy you for it because you’re somewhere they would love to be. Just how the human nature works. If they are not willing to put all that effort in – they will have to watch you from the bottom.

“A little more persistence, a little more effort, and what seemed hopeless failure may turn to golden success” – Elbert Hubbard

This one pushes me to keep going. Just one more step. One more try. And maybe around the next corner, there is something great. Maybe the next step will take me to where I want to be. After all, who knows?

Do yourself a favour and don’t give up. I know I’m not. If you need more motivation leave a comment or send me a message and I’ll talk you out of giving up!

We’re all in this together. So let’s support each other. Wouldn’t that be nice?

What quotes keep you going?

Table with two notebooks. Magic is something you make quote.

This is so motivational! Especially the Mark Twain one speaks to me because I am the same as you: a lot of the time I want to do something, but I end up not doing it for various reasons. Gotta work on that! S. xx

“If you don’t build your own dreams, someone will hire you to build theirs” – I love this and it’s so true! It’s basically what every 9-5 job is doing eh? x

On another note: after 8 months, I'll finally get to hug my family in 3 weeks! It's the longest I've ever gone without seeing them and I can definitely feel that. Video calls are great but in no way do they compare to actually being with the ones you love. So even though I'm absolutely terrified of getting on a plane during a pandemic, I wouldn't be able to last any longer without a mental breakdown.

We'll, partially because even though I love it and I cried when I put it on, I still wanted to come back home and think about it. That's on being an anxiety-driven decision-maker. In all honesty though, if my personality was a dress, that would be it! Is it acceptable to live in a wedding dress for the rest of my life? Because I might just do that.
